Erke

Erke is an instrument that was used to communicate between big distances. The echo produced at the mountains could travel through many kilometers.

In order to produce the sound, vibration of lips is required.

A large cane with a horn at the end produce the sound. We need a big air pressure and a very intense support of our diaphragm. This is actually necessary for all Andean winds, but specially for erkes, siku, quena, traverse quenon and tarkas.
